Vees blank Brooks Bandits to take 2-0 lead in Doyle Cup

Wade Murphy nets winner, while Vees goalie Michael Garteig earns shutout in 1-0 win

Wade Murphy's goal 5:48 into the first period on the power play was all the offence the Penticton Vees needed. The Vees held on for a 1-0 win over the Brooks Bandits to takea 2-0 series lead in the Doyle Cup. Vees No.1 stopper Michael Garteig made his playoff debut turning aside all 43 shots faced. While the Vees went 1-for-6 on the power play, the Bandits failed to capitalize on seven chances.

The Doyle Cup will now shift to Penticton with Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday at the South Okanagan Events Centre with puck drop at 7 p.m. For more Vees coverage, check Wednesdays issue of the Penticton Western News.
