With the threat of U.S. tariffs on top of mind, City of Penticton officials are asking businesses across all sectors to participate in a new questionnaire on economic development.

“We want to hear from local businesses to learn about what’s working well and whether the city can help address barriers related to maintaining or expanding business,” said Blake Laven, general manager of development services. “Economic development is the heart of any city and so we are asking the business community what they need to ensure a healthy economic outlook now and for the future.”

On March 7, Penticton City Council asked staff to include tariff-related questions in the feedback form. Municipal politicians also directed staff to revive the "Love Local" program, an initiative from the COVID-19 pandemic that encourages residents to support the city's economy.

The survey, which can be found at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca, is called the Business Climate Questionnaire. Feedback will be accepted until April 17.

Questions specifically asking about tariffs and counter-tariffs are included in the questionnaire.

The last Business Climate Questionnaire in Penticton was conducted in 2018.
