An iconic piece of Okanagan history was celebrated in downtown Penticton on Tuesday (Feb. 8).

It’s been one year since the ice cream shop Tickleberry’s opened at 202 Main Street and people celebrated by taking advantage of the store’s special offer — one free scoop in a bowl or cone from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As the original Tickleberry’s, located in Okanagan Falls, remains seasonally closed, the downtown Penticton location was busier than usual for a drizzly Monday in February.

The shop opened in February of 2021, replacing a local Starbucks.

Along with its famous ice cream, the one-year-old location in Penticton sells coffee, cookies and muffins, to name just a few of their treats.

Tickleberry’s has served up 72 different ice cream flavours since the shop was founded by Dale and Jenette Hoy in 1972 in Okanagan Falls.
