The Penticton Indian Band has again been recognized at a business leader at the eight annual B.C. Aboriginal Business Awards.
While the PIB was winding up its election for chief on Oct. 19, the winners of the eighth annual awards were being announced Premier Christy Clark and Keith Mitchell, chair of the B.C. Achievement Foundation, at a gala dinner in Vancouver.
Among the 15 winners, the Penticton Indian Band Development Corporation was recognized for Outstanding Business Achievement in the category of Community-Owned business, two or more entities.
“We are multi-award winners now in business,” said outgoing PIB Chief Jonathan Kruger, who lost his bid for a third term as chief.

In 2015 the PIBDC was recognized with the Aboriginal Economic Development Corporation Award by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business as well as Economic Developer of the Year from the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers.

The PIBDC is the principal economic development, marketing and promotional organization for the band, pursuing business joint ventures and investment opportunities on behalf of the community that meet the established investment criteria developed by the development corporation, ensuring the band’s traditional values and provide a sustainable economic return.
"Aboriginal entrepreneurship is vital to ensuring that all British Columbians benefit from our growing economy," said Clark. "The awards shine a spotlight on the important and expanding role of aboriginal business in B.C. while showcasing successful aboriginal entrepreneurs from across the province."
The BC Aboriginal Business Awards were launched in 2008 to honour and celebrate business excellence, representing entrepreneurial excellence in diverse and unique industries within B.C. including law, communications, resource management, construction, entertainment, esthetics, landscaping and retail.
