Businesses from outside of Summerland may be part of the Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism.

Lisa Jaager, manager of the chamber, said the board  evaluated its membership requirements to include those from neighbouring communities. Membership in the chamber is automatic for all businesses with a valid Summerland business license. Associate memberships are available for non-profit organizations.

A third membership category of corporate memberships is for businesses based outside of the community but which have bought a membership in the Summerland chamber. Jaager said businesses with mobile licenses could join the chamber under this category.

“Summerland business can stand on its own. We have nothing to be afraid of,” Jaager said.

She added the chamber needs to open its doors to out-of-town businesses if local businesses want the same consideration in other communities.
