If Penticton recently became your new home, the city has a gift for you.

Around 300 newcomers may have noticed a special email in their inbox this week, courtesy of the city and the Penticton Vees.

Those who received “Welcome Here” packages earlier this year have received tickets to the Vees’ 2022-2023 home opener against the Trail Smoke Eaters on Sept. 23, according to the city.

“It was a collaborative idea between the City and Vees to highlight how big a hockey town Penticton is and what a great experience attending a game at the SOEC can be,” the city’s communications advisor Shane Mills wrote to the Western News.

The giveaway covers 300 people and about 120 homes, Mills added.

Only those who moved to the Peach City in January and later were part of the “Welcome Here” program.

A city-led survey in April showed that 23 per cent of Penticton’s newcomers are from the Lower Mainland, with 42 per cent of all new residents citing work opportunities as their reason for moving.

The Vees’ opener against the Smoke Eaters this September marks the start of the team’s championship defence.

Penticton captured the B.C. Hockey League’s Fred Page Cup in May.
