Food supply will be on its way to those in need thanks to an upcoming Penticton-based food drive.
Tents will be set up outside of Cherry Lane Mall on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, for the fifth annual Junior Chamber International’s (JCI) ValleyWide food drive.
People are asked to drive up to the tents to drop off their donations.
“We are part of this community and are here to help those who need it the most,” said Stuart Knott, the event’s organizer.
Donations will be given to two local organizations, Fill the Food Gap Penticton and Purple Pantry.
More than 3,800 pounds of food was donated to the city’s most vulnerable community members last year, as a result of the four-hour event.
Knott said the need for food supply is as great as ever, with the following items listed as the most desired:
• Pork and beans
• Chef Boyardee
• Canned meats
• Pasta sauce
• Canned fruit
• Rice
• Soup
• Small juice boxes
• Bottled water
• Peanut butter
• Cereal
• Kid’s snack
• Lunch items
“We started this event five years ago and the community really got behind it so we wanted to try and keep it going as the need is greater than ever,” Knott said last month when the fifth edition of the event was first announced.
