Agur Lake Camp Society are teaming up with Kettle Valley Steam Railway for their annual fundraiser, the Agur Lake Charity Train.

On Saturday, June 11 at 10:30 a.m., the public can ride the Kettle Valley Steam Train by donation, with all proceeds going to Agur Lake Camp in Summerland.

“It is a really affordable opportunity to be a tourist in your own town,” said Carol Blackmore, board member for Agur Lake Camp Society and a professional caregiver in Keremeos.  “The train has accessible cars so I can enjoy the train with my clients and my donation supports a really unique barrier-free camping facility in B.C.”

Agur Lake Camp is B.C.’s only barrier-free wilderness camping facility for children and adults with special needs and their families/caregivers. It is located 20 kilometres west of Summerland on Agur Lake, one of the area’s best fishing holes.

The oasis for rest and rejuvenation was built and is maintained on the generosity and volunteerism of the local community.

Ken Orford,  general manager of the KVSR said the Agur Lake Charity Train is very popular with the local residents and the KVSR is happy to support other organizations in the community.

The train tour is 90 minutes and organizers are asking that people arrive 30 minutes in advance for boarding.

Agur Lake Camp Society will be serving hotdogs and refreshments by donation after the train ride.

The ride has sold out in years past so reservations are recommended,  contact the KVSR office at 250- 494-8422  or www.kettlevalleyrail.org/ride/agur-lake-train/.

Agur Lake Camp is also hosting a golf tournament at Summerland Golf and Country Club on July 9. Entry includes 18 holes, a power cart,  lunch, dinner and many prizes. Sign up a foursome or as an individual and you will be placed on a team. More information and registration forms available at www.agurlakecamp.ca.
