“Thank you, thank you very much,” were the magic words Elvis Presley was known to say to his adoring audiences after a performance.

Now Critteraid Animal Rescue in Summerland got to say those famous words to the organizers of the Penticton Elvis Festival after they donated more than $6,000 to the local animal sanctuary.

On Wednesday, Critteraid director Maggie Young received a cheque for $6,360 from Elvis Festival Society president Dave Martin and vice president Stephanie Mackenzie.

The money was raised from partial proceeds of the Gospel Sunday as well as public donations during the Elvis Festival held in June.

Thousands from across the world came to Penticton to participate or take in the return of Canada’s largest Elvis festival.

The three-day event saw Elvis tribute artists compete and perform to adoring fans young and old both at South Okanagan Events Centre and outdoor shows at Okanagan Lake Park.

The festival went from June 24 to 26 and saw international Elvises come to Penticton from as far away as the Netherlands and London.
