If you see smoke above Naramata, it is likely BC Wildfire doing controlled burns.
From Nov. 8 to March 31, the BC Wildfire Service will be burning about 150 piles of wood debris in an area located about five kilometers east of Naramata.
As part of the ongoing fuels management project, pile burning will occur in an effort to reduce wildfire hazards by lowering the accumulations of fuel in the surrounding areas.
The burning will take place near the Arawana Forest Service Road for at least the next four months.
Smoke from the pile burning is expected to be visible from surrounding areas like Penticton, Naramata and Summerland.
From now until March, the BC Wildfire Service says that its staff will be monitoring the fires at all times.
More joint Penticton Indian Band and B.C. Wildfire Service controlled burns are scheduled to begin on Nov. 9 around Penticton, up Carmi and near White Lake.
The burns are set to consume 1,300 piles of wood debris throughout the Penticton Fire Zone as part of ongoing fuel management in the area.
