There's a new place to play sports and enjoy the outdoors in Penticton.
Ridge Park, located on Deer Place in the Duncan/Columbia neighbourhood, officially opened on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The space features basketball and tennis courts, as well as picnic tables, benches, paved trails for walking, and a sledding hill.
"It's kind of multi-generational, and that's what it is designed for," said Penticton mayor Julius Bloomfield. "It's what a park should be, a space where people of all ages can intermingle, get to know each other and interact."
The city is not associated with any park-related costs, as it was a condition for the developer to build it as part of its plans in the area, Bloomfield said.
Featuring panoramic views over the city, Ridge Park also has a climbing play structure.
It represents the 11th park within the City of Penticton.
Bloomfield was joined Saturday by Coun. Helena Konanz, as the pair took in the view and greeted nearby residents during an opening celebration event.
"As we grow and more housing goes in, parks like this are vital to creating that livability," the mayor said.
