Celebratory events have been scheduled in Penticton for the province-wide Fall GoByBike Week, set for Sept. 23 to Oct. 6.
Cyclists across B.C. are expected to take part in festivities, and Penticton city officials are encouraging local residents to do the same.
The city says it is hosting an event on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. outside Penticton's library and next to the bike lane on Fairview Road.
"Ride in while travelling to work or school for free snacks and the chance to win a prize," an announcement reads.
Celebration stations are also being set up at the KVR Pump Track on Sept. 28, and at Cherry Lane Shopping Centre on Oct. 1, according to the city.
A wrap party at the Penticton Safety Village on Oct 6, will close out festivities.
“There are so many benefits to riding bikes for everyday transportation," said Madison Poultney, the city's sustainability coordinator. "Not only is it an opportunity to be physically active, but you are contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing road congestion and saving money on gas and parking."
GoByBike Week is a B.C.-based event planned seasonally.
It is "intended to encourage British Columbians to ride their bikes as much as possible to work, school, for exercise and for fun," the city said.
People in Penticton can register and log their rides here.
