Just over $3,000 was raised at the first ever Christmas in July fundraising event at Lucky’s Pet Supply on Saturday.

Between tickets for the BBQ, the online silent auction, and customers’ generous donations, we raised $3,000 for Critteraid and Paws N Claws,” said Lucky’s Pet Supply owner Chrystina Barnard on Facebook Sunday.

“So many pets out there are now living their best lives because of these awesome people [at Critteraid and Paws N Claws],” said Barnard.

Penticton’s favourite Santa Gary Haupt was dressed for the occasion and kept busy getting pictures with cats, dogs and even ferrets.

It was a balmy 33 degrees and not a snowflake in sight and Christmas in July was a big success, said Barnard who thanked the many volunteers and pet supply companies and those local businesses who donated to the online auction.

The pet food supply store at 104-2100 Main Street had pupcake eating contest, Santa appear and lots of other fun and food to raise money for two animal rescues in our community — Critteraid and Paws N Claws Freedom Rescue Society.

The ‘barking lot’ party will start at 10 a.m. with a ‘pupcake’ eating contest. The winner will receive a $30 gift card to Lucky’s Please send Lucky’s a message to enter your pooch in the ‘pupcake’ contest.

Penticton’s favourite Santa Claus is coming down at noon for photos. If you missed Lucky’s Christmas shoot - now is your chance to meet the big man with your pets.

Every penny raised through the online silent auction, the Santa photos, barbecue tickets, and from customer’s generosity is going to be split between the two animal charities.

Drop-in tomorrow to spin the prize wheel, have a meet and greet with the one and only Santa Claus, grab a free sample or three, enter some door prize baskets, grab a freezie, and maybe win a Weber portable BBQ.

There are lots of great auction items to be had including a new CCM 7 speed bicycle donated by South Okanagan Bike Rentals, a SiriusXM radio with a boombox, cooling jackets for dogs, local wine and gift cards.

Go to ‘Penticton Online Auction for Critters’ on Facebook to check out the auction.
