City forms Rick Hansen committee

The City of Penticton is looking for community members who are interested in sitting on the Rick Hansen Relay Community Committee.

The City of Penticton is looking for community members who are interested in sitting on the Rick Hansen Relay Community Committee.

Beginning on Aug. 24, 2011 in Cape Spear, Nfld., the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay will retrace the Canadian segment of the original Man In Motion World Tour, travelling 12,000 kilometres through 600 communities and concluding in Vancouver on May 22, 2012.

“Penticton will welcome the Relay on Thursday, May 3, 2012 and we are looking for interested community members who would like to be involved in developing a small celebration upon its arrival” said Lori Mullin, City of Penticton recreation supervisor.

The first committee meeting is set for May 4 at 10 a.m. at City Hall Committee Room A. Please RSVP to Lori Mullin at lori.mullin@penticton.ca or by phone at 250-490-2432.

Penticton residents are welcome to enter the public contest to be one of the 7,000 Canadians who have made their own difference in the lives of others, to walk, run or wheel as an official Relay Medal-Bearer. Contest information is available through the website www.RickHansenRelay.com.
