Composting plan gets boost

Efforts to build a regional compost facility have received a $175,000 boost from Ottawa.

Efforts to build a regional compost facility have received a $175,000 boost from Ottawa.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen announced last month it received the grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to do a feasibility study of technical and financial options for composting programs.

The study will review what options are available for composting services, plus evaluate potential sites for such an operation.

“The RDOS recognizes that compost sites can create odours if improperly site, or not run well. Our goal is to look at a variety of options so that we can make the best decisions possible,” RDOS board chairman Mark Pendergraft said in a press release.
