The Cram the Cruiser event on Saturday was a resounding success and the big winner was The Penticton Salvation Army Food Bank.
Organized by the RCMP, Sheriff’s Service and the City’s fire department and bylaw Services, the first responders had a police cruiser in the parking lot of Cherry Lane shopping centre all of Saturday, with dozens of people bringing buy non-perishable foods and donations to cram the cruiser.
By the end of the day, the backseat, trunk and passenger seat were completely crammed.
“Your giving will make a difference,” said the city of Penticton.
For bylaw officer Travis Mills, being part of the Cram the Cruiser is an opportunity to help make the holidays a bit brighter.
“We just want to do our part to make the season a little brighter for people who are having a tough time,” says bylaw enforcement officer Travis Mills. “A big part of all our jobs is seeing residents in challenging moments. This year has been a struggle for many, we know food bank usage is up and we hope to make the season a bit happier.”
