On Saturday, Valley First Insurance Services and Wal-Mart will be celebrating safety month with a tailgate-style event in the Peachtree Square parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is being put on for the second year in a row in support of the safety, health and care of the city.

“In terms of safety, I strongly believe in educating the community — the more info we get out to people, the better,” said Kathy Rae, event organizer.

Amongst the family-focused activities will be a remote control car obstacle course, ambulance tours with an attendant from BC Ambulance, a RoadStar wheel game, bicycle safety and helmet safety inspections, boat safety and equipment inspections by the RCMP Auxiliary, pleasure craft operators certificate books and exams, an emergency preparedness display by the Penticton Fire Department, and hotdogs and beverages for sale. There will also be a penny drive with donations of cash and non-perishables accepted for Feed the Valley.

“We wanted to put on an event that would help both the community and non-profit organizations,” said Rae.

Proceeds raised from hotdog sales and prize draws, which include a bicycle, a helmet and a lifejacket, will be donated to local non-profit organizations.
