Foundation provides a boost

The South Okanagan Similkameen Chapter of the MS Society of Canada recently received over $3,000 from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan.

The funding was needed to help with the purchase of portable aquatic stairs for the Oliver Parks and Recreation outdoor swimming pool.

It was suggested at an MS Oliver-Osoyoos Support Group meeting last fall that they were in need of stairs for easier access to the pool.

“The stairs will not only help to assist people in the community living with multiple sclerosis but aid others such as parents and caregivers of infants, small children, senior citizens and persons with limitations or disabilities,” said Cyndi MacDonald, fundraising co-ordinator for the MS Society.

MacDonald applied for the Community Foundation grant to help with the cost and recently found out they would be receiving it.

The grant, combined with $1,000 from the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society, covers the cost of the purchase, delivery and installation of the stairs.
