Ron Mason, a founding member of the Penticton Sunrise Rotary Club, has received the organization’s highest distinction.

Today Mason, who arrived in Penticton almost 50 years ago is officially an honourary member of the city’s rotary club.

Mason was a member of the club when they were granted its charter from Rotary International in 1990. But even before that, the organization’s newest honourary member subscribed to Rotary’s motto — service-above-self.

Along with his community service work in Penticton for several decades, Mason has taken the lead on local Rotary projects like the construction of Penticton Soupateria and playgrounds in Dunant and Granbee neighbourhood parks.

The Penticton resident, along with his wife, has also hosted five Rotary international exchange students since being a founding member in 1990.

“As one of our Club’s most respected and dearly loved members with a stellar community service record spanning half a century, Ron is eminently worthy of honourary membership,” the club said in a statement.
