Pickleball, bowling, indoor curling and dragon boating — if you have never tried any of these sports, now is your chance to get to do it for free.

The City of Penticton recreation department, in partnership with the 55+ BC Games and the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, is hosting Give it a Try! again this year on June 7 and 8.

Give it a Try! is a free, two-day program where people over 55 are given the chance to sample a variety of different sports related to the 55+ BC Games.

“After the success of last year’s event, we were more than happy to partner again to host this annual multi-sport event this year,” said recreation co-ordinator Shaun Ironstone. “Being able to provide an opportunity to help improve the health, lifestyle and image of B.C.’s 55+ population through physical and social engagement is very rewarding.”

The free drop-in event is for anyone over the age of 55. Organizers recommend coming early as space is limited per activity. On June 7 pickleball will be offered at the Naramata outdoor courts from 9 a.m. to noon and bowling will be offered at the Similkameen Recreation Centre from 1 to 3 p.m. On June 8 the Penticton Community Centre will host indoor curling and indoor pickleball from 10 a.m. to noon. Okanagan Falls Elementary will have indoor pickleball on June 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. Those wanting to try dragon boat racing can check it out at Skaha Lake Park from 10 a.m. to noon on June 8.
