It’s better late than never for the organizers of this year’s Summerland Stomp fundraiser.

The fifth annual event, to benefit the Summerland Rodeo Grounds, was cancelled in July because of two active wildfires affecting the community.

At the time, the Mount Conkle fire near the rodeo grounds and the Mount Eneas fire south of Peachland were both burning, with the Mount Eneas fire classified as out of control.

When the event was cancelled, Gwen Shaw, one of the organizers, indicated it was unlikely an event would be held at a different date this year.

But since that time, organizers have been able to bring back the dance.

“Everybody we ran into who had heard about it asked if we were going to reschedule,” she said.

The organizing group was able to arrange some sponsorships to offset some of the costs of holding the event.

Sponsors include Fox and Fox Realty, Purple Hemp, Second Home Restaurant, Adrian’s Automotive, The Perch Liquor Store, Summerland Gold and Silver Exchange, 100.7 CIGV FM, TreeLeaf Design, OK Corral, Summerland Timber Mart and Riteway Fencing.

The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by Appaloosa.

Two-step lessons will run from 7 to 8 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go to improvements to the Summerland Rodeo Grounds. Shaw said some of the improvements include a paved area at the back of the clubhouse, improvements to the stables and more.

Tickets are available at Country Corner and at The Perch Liquor Store in Summerland.
