The Penticton Speedway is revved up for the final race of their 49th season and it’s a fan favourite.
The Oct. 28 race includes cars dressed to impress to celebrate Halloween and will run four classes on the track including hornets, street stocks, late models, hit-2-pass and the day of destruction boat and trailer smash up.
Kids under 10 are free (adult tickets are $20) and the speedway encourages fans to dress up in costumes to win cash and prizes.
A 50-50 raffle and the limo ball toss, to support organizations like the breakfast programs of the Okanagan-Skaha School District 67, will also take place.
The races get underway at 2 p.m.
Foundation gives back to kids
The Penticton Speedway Foundation recently donated $6,500 raised from spectators and participants at the racetrack this season.
Of that money raised through 50-50 draws, raffles and cash donations — $5,500 was given to school breakfast programs.
Parkway, Carmi, Columbia, West Bench, Queens Park, Giant’s Head, ConnectED, Princess Margaret Secondary School, KVR, Skaha Lake Middle School and Ecole Entre Lac, the Penticton Army Cadets and the Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation all received a $500 donation.
In addition to the $6,500, the foundation also donated $8,680 in May to Okanagan-Skaha School District 67 breakfast programs, the South Okanagan Women In Need Society, Critteraid and AlleyCats Alliance.
In September $1,017 was donated to the United Way, and earlier this month $2,017 was donated to Canadian Tire’s JumpStart program.
Speedway owners Johnny and Jasmine Aantjes remind the public that many of the schools in the district are looking for volunteers in the morning to help with food prep and serving for the breakfast programs.

There are many supplies that are on the current wishlists for the breakfast program such as small plates, utensils, cups, toasters, waffle maker, electric griddles, blenders and muffin tins.
Food and monetary donations for the breakfast programs are happily accepted too.
Schools are also seeking local orchardists who have extra fruit for donations as many of the volunteers will make applesauce, muffins and other food items to freeze and use throughout the winter.
The schools have volunteers who will pick the fruit, if needed.
