Kiwanis Club of Summerland donates $5,500 to local organizations

Funds raised from sale of used furniture

The Kiwanis Club of Summerland has donated $5,500 to organizations in the community through the sale of donated furniture and other items.

Diane Pearson, treasurer of the service club, said the donations were sold online to raise the money. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kiwanis Club would hold garage sales as fundraising events.

The service club donated $1,500 to the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre.

Other organizations received $500 each. These organizations are the Agur Lake Camp Society Air Cadets, Giant’s Head School Breakfast Program, Summerland Middle School Breakfast Program, NeighbourLink Summerland the Girl Guides, the Variety Club and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club.

The Kiwanis Club of Summerland is continuing to sell furniture. Anyone with furniture donations is encouraged to call Pearson at 250-404-0434.

The club has a total of 11 members and is looking for more members who enjoy volunteering to join the organization.
