The Summerland Skatepark is open to the public, but municipal crews are still working at the site.

The facility, at the corner of Rosedale Avenue and Jubilee Road West, was opened in late March and the concrete skateboarding surface is complete.

Municipal crews are continuing to work on the landscaping and irrigation at the park.

The skatepark is more than 929 square metres and includes a bowl and street features.

Construction was done by NewLine Skateparks Inc. and began at the end of last summer.

The site for the park is land owned by the Okanagan Skaha School District, on the Summerland Secondary School sports field.

The cost of the facility is around $600,000. Funding came from the Penny Lane Legacy Fund, which contributed $145,000, members of the community who provided another $10,000 and the Federal Gas Tax — Community Works Funding which supplied the remainder of the money.

A formal opening ceremony will be held this spring.
