The Penticton Secondary Schools Bursary and Scholarship Foundation has received another substantial boost to its funds for the next 10 years thanks to a donation from the late David Kampe.

In 2018, Kampe donated $195,000 to the foundation, providing multiple academic bursaries of $5,000 and vocational awards of $3,000 to graduating students in financial need.

The foundation recently received a $2 million donation from the estate of Kampe, with a request to distribute the funds over the next 10 years.

Kampe hoped these awards would have a significant impact on students who just need a bit more help to get them on their way to college or university programs.

The funds will be distributed similarly to 2018, and will continue to focus on supporting students in financial need who are post-secondary programs in academics or trades.

The average cost of one year of post-secondary can range from $18,000 to $25,000, making it unaffordable for many.

“As post-secondary expenses continue to increase, this endowment will allow the foundation to provide a higher level of funding for many students, making post-secondary more attainable for those who need some additional help,” said Viv Lieskovsky, the foundation’s president.
