After a two-year hiatus, the Meadowlark Nature Festival is returning to the South Okanagan in May 2022.
The nearly 24-year-old festival released a statement this week saying that they have received several calls from people asking about the status of the event.
As a result, the festival decided to go ahead and announce the return of the event this week.
Since 1998, the Meadowlark Nature Festival has celebrated the natural environment of the Okanagan Similkameen by presenting interactive events to participants of the festival.
“We will look a little different in 2022 in order to abide by any restrictions laid out by the Provincial Health Authority, but we are well-rested and eager to offer the best festival yet,” said Meadowlark Nature Festival coordinator Paul Lockington.
The festival hasn’t taken place since 2019 when the event ran from May. 16-20, with the gatherings starting in Osoyoos and ending in the Okanagan Falls.
Events that take place at the Meadowlark Nature Festival include canoe trips, bird watching tours, guided hikes and back-country horseback riding.
The festival says that they have exposed thousands of local and visiting participants to its environmental initiatives and have contributed $550,000 directly to Penticton and the area’s economy as a result of the events.
“We will have more information for you as we get more organized but mark your calendars for May. 20-23,” the statement reads.
