Over $330,000 has been distributed to more than 40 South Okanagan-based charities thanks to the Community Foundation’s latest grants.
Organizations like the OSNS Child and Youth Development Centre, Pathways Addictions Resource Centre and the Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Society (ALERT) are among the local charities who received grants after the foundation’s announcement on Feb. 17.
Half of the $330,000 went towards implementing new programs and supporting operations at non-profit organizations.
The remaining funds were used for endowment funds managed by the Community Foundation.
“We are 100 per cent volunteer-run and proudly donate our time and energy to the shop,” said Jane Noonan, a volunteer at the Oliver Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop, one of the grant recipients and fundraiser for the SOS Medical Foundation.
Organizing inventory and stocking shelves at the thrift shop will be much easier after the Community Foundation’s grant, the store said.
“The thrift shop is more than just a place for us to volunteer, it’s also our social time and a way to stay connected in the community,” Noonan added.
Applications for next year’s grants will be open from August to October.

The Community Foundation is encouraging non-profit organizations, however, to prepare their applications in advance.
“All are welcome to sign up for the workshop, whether they’re new applicants, returning grant applicants, or for anyone who just wants to know a bit more about applying for non-profit funding,” Sarah Trudeau, the foundation’s manager of grant programs.
Workshops will take place in September.
