Organizers for the annual Sandcastle Competition during the Penticton Peach Festival are reminding people to get their teams in early as there is only room for 22.

The 30th annual RONA Sandcastle Competition, as part of the Penticton Peach Festival celebrations, is scheduled for Aug. 8 at Skaha Beach.

"The only way to guarantee a spot for your team is to sign up in advance," said spokesperson Matt Kenyon, adding they can accommodate up to 22 teams.

The event is held in conjunction with Peach Festival with proceeds from the competition going to a variety of local and international projects. The winning teams in each category receive prize money (family/friends $50, youth $200, kids $100 and corporate challenge $500) that is donated to their charity of choice. The competition gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with kid's teams (12 and under) allocated one hour while all other categories are allowed two hours to complete their sandcastle before judging begins.

Organizers are hoping for several new entries in the Corporate Challenge category.

"It is a lot of fun," said Kenyon. "And the winning corporate team earns $500 for their favourite charity."

Entry fees are for the corporate challenge teams $50; family/friends teams $25; youth teams (13 to 16) $20 and kid's teams $10.

Registration is available at www.peachfest.com or can be found at RONA, Greyback Construction and Dragon's Den. Registration at the SKaha Beach Sun Dial gets underway on Aug. 8 at 4 p.m.
