Osoyoos residents can expect to pay more when taking trash to the landfill.

Effective Dec. 21, 2020 the rate at the Osoyoos and District Sanitary Landfill was raised from $110 per metric tonne to $114.99

After a review of landfill tipping fees was conducted, the price hike was introduced to offset some of the increases in costs associated with the operations of the landfill, according to a news release from the Town of Osoyoos.

The following additional rate changes will also take effect on December 21, 2020:

  • All other rate categories will increase by 4.54 per cent
  • The minimum charge per load will change from $5.00 to $6.50
  • The minimum charge for yard waste loads over 100 kg will change from $5.00 to $6.50
  • The additional cost for mattresses and box springs will change from $10 per mattress/box spring to $15 per mattress/box spring
  • The cost for additional Garbage Tags will change from $2.40 each to $2.50 each

All loads coming into the landfill must scale in and scale out, and materials must be separated, and secured.
