For the first time since 2019, the Penticton Art Gallery is opening up its doors for a live, in-person event.
The gallery’s 45th annual fundraising auction goes on June 25, with a flight-worn space suit and an array of local paintings among the featured items at this year’s gathering.
It’s not just an ordinary auction, though. The gallery is marking the occasion with a special raffle that will see a two-person flight voucher to any WestJet location awarded to a randomly selected donor.
“We wanted to incorporate a little more fun this year,” said Chelsea Terry, the gallery’s communication coordinator. “We know how exciting an auction win can feel, so why not add the excitement of a raffle too?”
A silent auction, beginning on June 20, will come before the main festivities on June 25, set to run from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Other items available for bids include a Tiffany stained-glass lamp and a pair of Andy Warhol prints by Sunday B. Morning.
“I can picture these in the entrance way to a wine shop already,” Terry said about the Warhol prints.
Pre-bidding on all of the gallery’s available items is open, as of Wednesday, June 15.
For this year’s auction, the gallery is hoping to raise a total of $25,000, with the proceeds set to go to supporting exhibitions, public outreach and art education programming.
Tickets to attend the live auction on June 25 are listed for $25 for gallery members and $30 for non-members.
Drinks, courtesy of Cannery Brewing, and live music, thanks to jazz band Vuya Kaya, will be featured at the in-person event, with the live auction set to being at 5 p.m.
People can purchase their tickets at the Penticton gallery — located at 199 Marina Way — or by calling 250-493-2928.
