The Penticton Arts Council is on a two-week mission to raise money for a trio of community initiatives, with one aiming to help send a pair of high school students to a post-secondary arts program.

An online fundraising auction was launched by the group on May 18 and is set to close on June 3 at 7 p.m.

With featured items like wine tour tickets and a chartered boat ride for eight people available for bidding, the council has set its fundraising goal at $5,000.

All donations collected during the auction will be put directly back into the community, including $2,000 for the Arts Matter Scholarship, a program that will send select students from Penticton Secondary and Princess Margaret High School to higher education art institutions.

The remaining $3,000 will go to community outreach partners like the South Okanagan Women in Need Society and the Brain Injury Society, as well as to support the distribution of art supply packages for children and seniors across Penticton.

As of Thursday morning, May 19, the council has raised over $1,800 for the fundraiser.

People can visit the online auction here.

Those not interested in participating in the auction but still wish to contribute to the cause can donate funds directly.
