Time to dust off the old disco ball.

The South Okanagan Victim Assistance Society is holding their fourth annual SOVAS goes DISCO fundraiser on March 5 at the Barking Parrot.

DJ Shakes will provide the throwback tunes and the night will feature a costume contest judging the best male, female and group disco-themed costumes, a silent auction, door prizes and disco dance lessons to help shake off the rust by Army of Sass. There will also be a  disco glamour station by Melt Mineral Spa featuring hand scrubs, hot towel service and hand massages.

“This fundraiser is a perfect opportunity to get dressed up, hang out with your friends and dance the night away. We have a fun evening planned as there has been tremendous support from the community,” Amberlee Erdmann, SOVAS resource development co-ordinator, said in a press release.

“Imagine a retro 70s night where you abandon your day-to-day life, dress up in your shiniest outfit and get up and boogie — all for a terrific worthwhile cause,” Andrea Robertson, volunteer and emcee for the event, said in a release.

SOVAS provides counselling, court support and information to men, women and children who have experienced abuse. The funds raised go directly to supplementing SOVAS’ men’s counselling program.

The wait list for this program increases each year and additional hours are required to meet the demand.

“By supporting SOVAS goes DISCO you are supporting men, women and children survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in their journey beyond abuse,” said Lorraine Renyard, SOVAS agency coordinator, in a release.

The entirety of the nights profits will go toward SOVAS.

The party starts at 7 p.m.  and the doors will open at 6 p.m. Advance tickets are $20 and tickets at the door are $25. Each ticket includes a burger and a beer. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at the Penticton Lakeside Resort, 30 Minute Hit, South Main Market, Sprott Shaw College, Dogtown Coffee Co. and online through www.eventbrite.ca.

Those interested in volunteering or donating a silent auction item or door prize can contact Amberlee at rdc.sovas@gmail.com or call 250-493-0800 ext. 206.
