Building a direct line between the farmer and the customer is the goal of the Rancho Vignola Harvest Sale.

“The company (Rancho Vignola) goes out and meets with the farmers, and they get the food straight from them and bring it to you,“ said Randy Reimer, whose family runs the sales in the Okanagan.

The Harvest Sale runs on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., and on Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Each of the products featured will be available for sampling at the tables for customers to taste before they buy. Around 90 different products, ranging from dried fruits and nuts to prepared gift baskets, are ready to be picked up at the sale.

This is the sixth year of the sale in Penticton by the Reimer family, who are based in Salmon Arm. With four generations involved in the business, however, the family has been involved with the Rancho Vignola for many more years.

“It started 38 years ago, with my wife’s grandpa going down to California to visit my parents-in-law, and he saw all this luscious and fresh raisins and almonds and said, ‘We have to bring this up to Canada,” and he did. He started the sales back in ‘99, and my wife and I have been doing them since 2006. He started with just a five-ton truck, but we’re bringing up a lot more now, so we have to use the big semis,” said Reimer. “That’s how it started, and here we are today.”
