May 30 to June 5 is GoByBike Week in Penticton and there are plenty of events happening to encourage people to get out and moving.

The 13th annual GoByBike Week is aimed at encouraging more people to incorporate cycling into their commute and everyday lives as a way of decreasing carbon emissions, saving money and being healthier.

Kicking off 2022’s week is a family open house at the Penticton Safety Village on Sunday, May 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

On May 30, Celebration Stations will be set up around town for cyclists from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. from May 30 to Friday, June 3. At each station cyclists will receive free drinks and snacks, daily prizes and giveaways entries, bike check-ups from Freedom The Bike Shop and The Bike Barn, plus a chance to enter the grand prize draw for a cycling trip to Holland.

Schools will be participating again as well with a variety of classroom activities.

Joining the celebration this year are five of Penticton’s breweries, with a different brewery each day from May 30 to June 3 offering a happy hour special for people arriving on bike.

On June 4, the week wraps up with a community ride ahead of the final celebration at Penticton’s Gyro Park from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Riders participating should be at Gyro Park by 10 a.m. to begin the family-friendly ride. A wrap-up celebration will commence on the riders’ return, featuring a Bike Swap.

Participants must be registered to be eligible for prizes. For full local event details, prizes and sponsors, go to gobybikebc.ca/Penticton.
