B.C. liquor store chain JAX’s is raising a glass to local food banks across the province this weekend and Penticton’s Salvation Army will be among those to get some much-needed help.

As part of a province-wide initiative, 10 per cent of sales from all 13 store locations will be donated to food banks in JAX’s communities on June 25.

“Summer is our busy season and it’s the most challenging time of year for our food banks, making it the best time to give back and raise a glass to our local food banks,” said Tim Dumas, the chain’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our message is simple: join us in-store or online on June 25 to stock up on your favourite beverages and in doing so, help stock the shelves of your local food bank — there’s no catch.”

Saturday will mark the fourth time JAX’s has led the province-wide campaign.

In 2019, for instance, the store raised a total of $20,107 for food banks across B.C., which resulted in almost $3,000 for Penticton’s Salvation Army.

“Summer is the slowest time for food bank donations but the demand for their services continues to skyrocket to record levels,” representatives from the chain said.

JAX’s Penticton location can be found outside of Cherry Lane Mall.

The local Salvation Army will be joined on Saturday by the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Saige Community Food Bank, Richmond Food Bank, SHARE Food Bank in Coquitlam, St. Joseph’s Food Bank in Mission and the Campbell River Food Bank.
