Just like Huck Finn, Penticton Scouts and Cubs built rafts and floated them down the Penticton Channel on Saturday.

The Huck Finn project saw around 40 Scouts and Cubs build rafts out of different kind of materials like wood pallets and apply everything from milk jugs to plastic buckets to help them float.

The final test of the hand-made structures was to take them down the channel on what turned out to be a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.

Launching from Coyote Cruises, the kids floated their Huck Finn rafts successfully down the river. None of the rafts sank, but some did take on a little extra water.

The 2nd Scout leaders were in kayaks and a lifeguard joined the group on a paddleboard and one on land along the way.

The successful day ended with a truly Canadian reward of Timbits and hot chocolate.

Some of the last floaters of the summer were the Penticton Scouts and Cubs who took their home-made Huck Finn rafts down the Penticton Channel on Saturday. (Contributed)
