The South Okanagan-Similkameen Volunteer Centre (SOS Volunteer Centre) has partnered with Fill the Food Gap Penticton as a food donation drop-off location.

Fill the Food Gap Penticton is a low-barrier food hamper program that collects food donations and delivers them to 50-plus residents a month. This program is done anonymously with no questions asked to gain access to food for those who need it. SOS Volunteer Centre is working closely with the organizers to ensure continued donations are available.

“We at Fill the Food Gap Penticton appreciate the opportunity to have a drop-off location downtown in Penticton,” said organizer Cherith Robson. “SOS Volunteer Centre and the Penticton United Church are a convenient location for the community to support those in need of food security.”

Fill the Food Gap Penticton is looking for donations of non-perishable foods including canned meats, tuna, chicken and salmon, cereals, pasta, peanut butter, juices and simply the basic food needs for those in need.

“It’s our pleasure to support this organization in reaching out to the vulnerable residents of our community to ensure anyone who needs assistance has access to one of the basic needs of life,” said Subrina Monteith, executive director of the SOS Volunteer Centre.

Non-perishable foods can be dropped off at the volunteer centre office Monday to Friday from 9 to 4 p.m. or at the Penticton United Church, both located at 696 Main Street.

There are two volunteers that collect and deliver and the rest is in the hands of the community.

Penticton United Church said “loving your neighbour means sharing and we are pleased to partner with SOS Volunteer Centre and Fill the Food Gap to collect the shared non-perishable food.”
