Martha Sandy and Dorothy Gorner, from Penticton, share something few other living people do, 1918 was the year of their birth.

Both ladies were honoured with a special 101st birthday celebration Monday at the Kiwanis Court retirement centre.

Gorner’s birthday was actually Jan. 2 and Sandy’s is coming up on Feb. 22.

A number of friends from the Penticton Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints attended the birthday party which included the presentation of two large cards as well as a single cake with the number 101 on top.

Party organizer Connie Hudson met the women through the church and decided to hold the party in between the two birthday’s of the women.

When asked about the secret to her longevity Gorner replied: “You should follow the things that your heavenly Father gives you and that includes your mother and father because of course they are very important in your life.

“So between your mother and father and the heavenly Father you are guided through this world.”
