Penticton Youth Week raises hundreds for homeless youth

The first Youth Week in Penticton saw hundreds come out to participate

Penticton’s Youth Week event raised over $400 to help with youth homelessness.

The main event of the week was a skate park competition with a barbecue fundraiser. All of the proceeds will go to 100 More Homes, the collaborative group of partners addressing housing and homelessness in the community.

Over 60 local youth came out to the park to participate in the competition, whether it was with their scooters or skateboards.

“It was so encouraging to see the turnout of young people at the skate event, having fun and learning from community partners. I especially want to thank the community for their attendance and generous donations so we can move this important work forward,” said Melisa Edgerly, a youth peer support supervisor at Foundry Penticton.

Partners of 100 More Homes and Youth Week hosted a number of events that saw hundreds of local youth show up to participate over the course of the inaugural week-long campaign.

The event came at a time when the Nowhere to Go Report was mailed out to Victoria and Ottawa to call for immediate action on the issue of youth homelessness in Penticton.
