Another event has been cancelled in Penticton following tighter COVID-19 restrictions in the Interior.

The latest victim: Penticton Rotary’s Ribfest, with the cancellation announced Sunday (Aug. 29).

Ribfest co-chair Barb Hoolaeff said the decision was made following consultations with the provincial government and Interior Health, adding “keeping attendees, volunteers, Ribbers, [and sponsors] safe is of utmost importance.”

Despite the event being cancelled, the public is still able to take part in the 50/50 draw beginning on Aug. 31.

Since launching in 2015, Ribfest has raised over $220,000 for the community.

Ribfest is among three other local events cancelled amid tightening COVID-19 restrictions. Last week, Ironman, Granfondo and the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival were cancelled.
