Photos: Remembrance Day in Keremeos

The cold didn’t stop people from coming to pay their respects

Several hundred people braved the cold to participate in the Remembrance Day ceremony in Keremeos.

Members of the local RCMP led the parade — which included the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, cadets, BC Ambulance Service and fire department — down Veterans Avenue before making their way along a path cleared of snow through Memorial Park to the Cenotaph.

There, they were surrounded by at least two hundred people from Keremeos and areas nearby. This year’s ceremony marked a welcome return of the public after two years of COVID-19 limitations.

Among those who paid their respects during the ceremony was Second World War and Korean War veteran Tony Elliott, who laid the wreath in honour of Korean War veterans.

Joining the British Marines, he was one of five crew responsible for a troop carrier that landed at Normandy on D-Day.
