Penticton’s annual picnic pop-up event proved to be a success yet again on Saturday, June 18.
Live music, courtesy of Kelowna musician Jeff Piattelli, and yard games headlined the city-led gathering, which aims to promote local businesses.
“It’s really exciting to see all the kids playing the games and of course, everyone supporting our local businesses,” said Carly Lewis, the city’s economic development manager.
Starting at 12 p.m. on the block of 500-block of Main Street, the second annual “Pop-up Picnic-ton” welcomed community members for an afternoon full of family-friendly fun.
People could be seen ordering take-out meals from locally-owned restaurants nearby and eating on the picnic tables.
“As we’ve seen over the last couple of years, supporting local is so important for not only our economy here but also to make sure that we feel like a community and I know the businesses are really grateful to have the support of the locals,” Lewis added.
Piattelli, meanwhile, entertained those in attendance with his version of hit songs from the Eagles, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Green Day, among others.
Saturday’s event was the second of two pop-up gatherings in 2022, with the first being on June 4 on Winnipeg Street at Estabrook Avenue.
The city first launched its “Picnic-ton” campaign in the spring of 2021.
