There’s now more than just one place in Penticton to check out a library book.

The Penticton Public Library is using the local community centre at 325 Power Street as a new location for people to fetch items and keep materials on hold.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 5, the centre is home to a holds locker that will accommodate those who struggle to make it to the library during its current operating hours.

“The Community Centre is a hub of activity, and we are testing this new location to pick up materials on hold as a pilot project,” said Heather Buzzell, Penticton’s chief librarian.

“If this turns out to be a convenient stop for our patrons who also frequent the Centre for its many services, we’ll look at keeping the locker as an option for pick-ups.”

People can now put an item on hold in-person at the library or online and then select “community centre” as the pickup location. Staff will then deliver the select materials to the new locker when they are made available.

“Providing more options to access materials is an important part of our services,” Buzzell added. “Both the Centre and the Library are here to serve the citizens of Penticton, and this is a great way to work together.”

People have three business days to pick up the selected items from their preferred location, after which a $2 fee applies and the item goes to the next patron waiting for it.

All holds can cancelled by calling 250-770-7781.
