Skaha Climbers Festival auction to support of park watcher program

The program finds work for individuals with barriers to employment

The South Okanagan community is rallying together this month for the 12th anniversary of the Skaha Bluffs Climbing Festival.

A festival that recognizes the 27th anniversary of the formation of the Climbers Access of BC which was initiated at the Skaha Bluffs.

The local climbing community alongside the Skaha Climbers Association is raising funds in support of the Skaha Park Watch Society and the Skaha Climbers Anchor Repair Society, as well as non-profit organizations which all keep the climbing area safe, secure and sustainable.

The event is set to take place on May 28 and 29.

There will be a silent auction on Saturday evening, May 28. All of the proceeds from the auction will go to support the society’s program which provides work as park watchers for individuals with barriers to employment.

Since the program began the park has provided thousands of hours of work for the people it has hired, as well as helped to integrate them into the general workforce, according to society president Rolf Rybak.

The program is supported through grants and donations from both local businesses and visiting climbers.

There will also be a rock climbing film festival held at the Lakeside Resort on May 28.
