If you’re travelling between Penticton and Osoyoos Saturday, keep an eye peeled for a video crew and be sure to give them a cheery wave.
The Soroptimists of Osoyoos will be travelling from Penticton airport to Spirit Ridge, filming the sights along the way along with club members from Osoyoos, local citizens and business people.
“It’s all new to us, we are all excited about this. I don’t know what to expect, they have some crazy costumes. It is not really serious, it is meant to be fun,” said club spokesperson Kim Bush.
“We are trying to aim for as much involvement with our members as possible, depending on the weather, we will see what we are going to get.”
While they may be out there having fun, the video has a serious purpose.
The Soroptimists plan to show it at their regional conference in Abbotsford in May, promoting the Western Region Conference the Osoyoos chapter is hosting in 2015.
The event will be held at Spirit Ridge Resort, but the club has plans for the visiting delegates and guests to get to know the area.
The conference schedule will include time for wine tours, shopping trips, golf and sightseeing.
“This will be our invitation to bring other delegates and people to come to the conference next year and we are also trying to encourage them to make it a holiday while they are here,” said Bush.
“This is the first time we have been able to hold a conference in the South Okanagan for many years.”
The video, which is being produced by Cory Krist, starts out at the Penticton airport, where “visitors” will be welcomed and taken on a limousine ride to the conference location in Osoyoos.
They will take in the vista overlooking Skaha Lake, an Oliver winery, shopping in downtown Osoyoos and other sights along the way as well as a visit with Osoyoos’ mayor and council.
“We are all very proud of the South Okanagan. A variety of us either still work or are retired from businesses within the South Okanagan. We are all still very connected and really trying to promote it,” said Bush.
Soroptimist International is a women’s service club dedicated to improving the lives of women and children in local communities, and throughout the world, with 100,000 members in 125 countries.
