After a two-year on-location hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Summerland Ornamental Gardens will hold its annual spring plant sale on April 30 and May 1.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and will offer a wide range of vegetables, annuals, herbs and drought-tolerant perennials. A complete plant list will be available online at www.summerlandgardens.org on April 28.

People are encouraged to bring their own plant trays and to bring their unwanted tools and fancy pots to the pot and tool exchange. Master gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and give advice.

On Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m., join the South Okanagan’s garden expert, author and gardening talk host Scott Austin for a May Day Garden Tour. He will reintroduce participants to one of the most unique and historic places in our valley.

All proceeds go to The Friends of the Gardens Society for the care, maintenance and preservation of the gardens. The nonprofit society employs two seasonal full-time gardeners and organizes the many volunteers so essential to keeping this landmark beautiful. New volunteers are always welcome.

Organizers hope this year’s Spring Plant Sale will be the start of a return to the gardens for family walks, picnics and enjoyment.
