Sun shines on Terry Fox Run

Good crowd for Penticton’s 38th annual run

About 200 people turned out to participate in the 38th annual Terry Fox Run in Penticton on Sept. 16.

Organizer Kevin Harvey was pleased with the turnout on a suddenly sunny Sunday morning but said it’s not about the numbers.

“We’re happy with whoever shows. It’s all about keeping Terry Fox’s memory alive. He had a dream, and let’s keep that dream going,” said Harvey. The more people that get to participate, they get more out of it as well.”

Harvey said it all goes back to wanting to join in with Terry Fox dream and his Marathon of Hope.

“People are just happy to be part of it, something way bigger than any of us ever imagined,” said Harvey. “He did 143 days, and he did a marathon (42 kilometres) on every day.”

Deneen and Kevin Scott say they’ve participated in the Terry Fox Run more than 20 times.

“We’ve done it for quite a few years. My wife is a cancer survivor, that’s the biggest reason for supporting it always,” said Kevin. “This is the first time in Penticton. We’re from Chilliwack, but we were in Penticton this weekend, so we thought we would do it here.”
