The community of Oliver and the Sylix Okanagan nation are coming together to celebrate their shared history.
Starting on August 14, the Oliver & District Museum will be celebrating one hundred years of the Oliver community and 10,000 years of the Sylix Okanagan nation with its ‘One hundred x One hundred’ commemoration.
The museum will offer a week-long series of activities celebrating histories such as gold panning, crafts, a nsyilxcən word-matching activity, a Guess That Artifact prize draw and extra runs of its Downtown Heritage Walking Tour and Heritage Garden plant tour. The schedule of events can be found on their website.
While the festivities only run from Aug. 14 to 22, the museum will also be opening a new exhibit that will educate visitors on the history of the region for generations to come. The exhibit will showcase artifacts and documents from the past hundred years.
“The One Hundred X One Hundred/x̌cəcikst X x̌cəcikst project provides an opportunity to explore our roots and share wisdom to build a stronger shared community, a deeper connection to the land, and to grow our future together for generations to follow,” the Oliver Heritage District Society stated.
