A local scene familiar to many community members will be revived by the City of Penticton in 2022.
The Penticton Busking Program will return on May 15 at five different locations, city staff announced during council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, April 5.
Musicians entertaining tourists and local residents alike along the city’s most prominent streets is an idea coun. Judy Sentes couldn’t be more excited for.
“Every time I’ve been in San Francisco, I’ve come away walking their waterfront and seeing all of the buskers,” she said.
“And then I’ve thought, wouldn’t that be great here.”
Buskers in Penticton has been executed as an on-and-off venture by the city, with the program most prominent during the weekly markets on Saturdays during the summer.
“COVID didn’t make it any easier so I’m delighted to see it coming back and I think it will be hugely popular,” Sentes added.
The program is scheduled to end on Oct. 15, according to the city’s manager of recreation, culture and arts Kelsey Johnson.
License applications for local musicians will be available on April 15.
The city will unveil a webpage in the coming weeks dedicated to the revival of the program.
Johnson didn’t reveal where the five designated busking stops will be when the venture returns on May 15.
