The Penticton Western News is looking to hear more from our community members and is interested in finding out what they love about Penticton.

We are profiling different residents for our community section, by asking them to answer a list of questions about Penticton and why they think it is so great.

This week we are profiling Randy Brown who has lived in Penticton for 10 years and is a volunteer with the Penticton and District Search and Rescue.

Find out what Brown thinks about his community of Penticton.

When someone says ‘Penticton’ what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

Gateway to wine country and great outdoor lifestyle.

If you could change or improve one thing about your community what would it be?

I would love to more opportunities for young people to come to Penticton to work, invest in the community, raise families and create some diversity in the community.

Youth bring a fresh perspective on life, possibilities and willingness to try new things.

What’s your favourite local company?

Poplar Grove Winery.

What are the top three places you would recommend that tourists visit when they are in Penticton?

1) Naramta Bench and its wineries;

2) Skaha Beach;

3) KVR Trail.

In the winter — Apex and Nickel Plate.

What do you see for the community in 20 years?

My hope is that we will see a resilience in the community as the population ages. That new start tech companies see the advantages of the community and the area, which will inspire more young families to locate to Penticton. I am hopeful that the emerging food and wine industry in the region will continue to mature and that the emergence of educational opportunities in culinary and wine programs will evolve to be recognized as world class.

Penticton and area will be a world-class international destination.
